Interactive noise maps published!

It is hard to imagine a modern city without the sound of honking cars and a constant drone of traffic. But the impact of noise pollution on our lives has been overlooked for too long.

This June we published interactive Noisy Cities Maps in collaboration with Jetpack AI, creating a data sonification experience that not only visually maps out the problem for London, Paris and New York, but lets users listen to it too.

The maps have now been viewed more than 17,000 times and have been shared across many corners of the globe, from London to Washington to Spain. It’s great that noise pollution is finally getting the attention it deserves!

The maps show noise pollution levels regularly exceeding WHO recommendations made in 2018 - that average noise exposure should only be 53dB and that night time noise exposure should only be 45dB.

Please share the maps through your networks to raise awareness and continue the conversation about how we would like our cities to sound in a car-free future.
